Keyword difficulty in practice

In the beginning, definitely aim for keywords with low difficulty, and gradually build your way up (while seeing hopefully more and more visitors landing on your site, and perhaps more and more backlinks pointing to it).

The bigger and more popular your site becomes with time from every aspect, the bigger SEO power you’ll have, and the easier it will be to start ranking for high-difficulty keywords as well.

What is a high keyword difficulty?

You shouldn’t worry about remembering a specific number for this at all because the keyword difficulty metric will be there in all the keyword research tools you may try out (recommendations in the next lesson).

The metric is usually measured on a scale from 0 to 100, with the latter being the hardest to rank for. A keyword difficulty around 20, for instance, is in the easy category, and up from 70, you usually have a hard game to play.
