Mission

The Creator’s Diary shares the individual stories of creators, from personal to business anecdotes, and strives to be a digital place where good humans read and meet.

By sharing the stories of creators, we wish to learn from, inspire, support, and give hope to each other.

We also share knowledge resources for creators,  to help them on their journey when they meet challenges in their everyday lives.

Who is a creator?

We believe that a creator “creates usually by bringing something new or original into being“, and “invents, produces, or makes things“, online or offline.

We are interested in creators who make money from their passion, but while a creator often considers their creation to be “their career or livelihood“, this is not a must to fit the category, nor is generating passive income.

Creators bring their individuality into their creation, are courageous, determined, and optimistic, share their passion with the world, and earn money to keep their passion and life going, whether they are new entrepreneurs or have a brand under their belt.

After the TLDR version, here’s the full explanation of how we came to agree on the above and what we disagree with when others talk about creators.

Creators are online and offline 💻 🧶

We like to keep the definition of a creator as broad as possible, believing that the art of creation is versatile, and while we accept that the term “creators” gained a newly-found limelight in the digital era, we don’t think that creation is bound by bits and pixels.

We think that Internet explorers are only one group of creators and so many other individuals happen to create physical products successfully — so why won’t we include them among creators?

They can make handmade candles catering to the comforting mainstream or follow unique passions like crafting magical book nooks for the bibliophiles: we invite them all to take a seat.

Creators make money from their passion 💸

Creators are authentic individuals who put their individuality in the front row and follow their passions. Often, they are makers of things and products that help them earn money while they’re sleeping, but not exclusively — the latter tends to apply to digital creators and indeed gives them a wider and less expensive scale to expand on, compared to makers of physical products.

A common trait of these two groups though is that they make (or try to make) things for commercial purposes — in this regard, a person who sells jewelry with birthstones and another creative who shoots videos for YouTube influencers is not different. They make money from their passion and they like it that this is possible.*

Furthermore, creators seem to share some similar values and qualities, in addition to their uniqueness: “courage, determination & optimism“. You can wish to be a part-time or full-time creator but if you cannot find that one (or a couple more) thing you deeply care about, and those three qualities in yourself, you likely won’t get too far.

*Technically, of course, you can be a creator without making money from it, and we respect you all the same, but for The Creators’ Diary, we are looking for individuals who share their creations publicly and put themselves out there, eventually building reputation and revenue.

Creators come in all sizes ⚖️

We adore small creators and respect big brand owners all the same. All creators start somewhere. They can be in the first stage of building everything from the ground or they might be already paying a village to support them in their everyday maneuvers — as long as their unique personality and passion are still at the center of their creation, we consider them to be creators.

We really don’t want to throw profit numbers around to determine creators from a financial point of view — that would kill the fun, wouldn’t it?

At the same time, we can tell you this: everything starts with an idea and the first steps, but we’re not here to tell the stories of the top ten global companies and others alike, where that personality aspect is not present anymore. No offense, we’re just on different paths at this stage of life.

Thus, from fresh entrepreneurs through small and medium enterprises to larger companies, we welcome you as creators if you kick all the other boxes mentioned above.

We are inclusive. We care. We’d like to lift creators up by telling their stories. We’d like to support creators who are about to start their journey. We’d like to push forward creators who start asking questions. We’d like to share the stories of creators who have a message and we want those stories to reach other creators as support, confirmation, inspiration, and a ray of hope.
