Story of the week 🗞️
I often hear from creators that they struggle with art marketing because they just can't post on social media every single day.
This "post every day" thing has been flowing from every tap on Earth instead of water for such a long time, and it needs to stop.
I'm here to tell you that you don't have to post on social media every single day. In fact, you don't have to do anything to market your art that doesn't feel right. If you do that, all you do is cater to algorithms, instead of your future, true fans who will only navigate towards you (and will stick around and buy from you) when you feel authentic to them anyway.
So, what is it that you should do?
Remember these 3 things about art marketing and you'll be good to go. 👇
- Post consistently: Consistency is much more important than quantity, or in other words, burning out by posting every day. One post a week will get you just far enough when it comes to marketing results, without exhausting you. Show up & ship it. Repeat. Use that as your mantra.
- Focus on perception: Marketing boils down to one thing: perception. You need to influence people’s perception of what you make and make them see it's what they’ve been looking for. Example: Pointing out that your flowery ceramic mug could be a perfect Mother's Day gift is targeting their perception of your artwork. Think about people's "pain points" and needs (this is also marketing 101).
- Authenticity doesn't equal showing your face: You can be authentic and successful without showing your face. How about videos with voice-overs? That's one good alternative. Yes, people generally react well to seeing other human faces, but if showing yours on camera makes you shake down to your bones, then don't do it. You'll feel bad about the whole process, and if you won't enjoy that, viewers likely won't either.
