Why creators need video + 6 video types (+examples) you can try

Why should creators, artists, and makers consider producing (short) videos? And why did I do it too for The Creators' Diary? Plus, a list of different types of creator videos, with examples, that are usually popular, and you could try, too.

Hi! 👋

In this newsletter, I write about why creators, artists, and makers should consider producing (short) videos, and why I did it too for The Creators' Diary. I'll also list the different types of creator videos, with examples, that are usually popular, and you could try, too.

Welcome (back)! 🤗

Story of the week 🗞️

When I talk to creators, most will tell me the same: "I should do (more) videos."

To which I say, "Yeah, you should." And then: "But I get it."

It really is hard for the first time. It's a bit technical, you might have to fight your fear of putting yourself on screen if that's the direction you're going to, and it's time-consuming to correctly record, edit and post videos.

We've just launched a new video series on our socials where I'll share creator business and marketing tips with our followers that are (hopefully) quick and educational at the same time.

Also, here's our Instagram and YouTube channel if you prefer those for video consumption.

The decision to start making these videos didn't come to me very lightly either, but I went with it. Here's why:

  1. In this AI era, I'm convinced that people will appreciate the human touch more and more. I'm aware that AI-generated videos are a reality, too, but in general, we plan to connect with creators more deeply, and for that, showing one of the people behind our team, with a face and a voice, seemed to be a good decision.
  2. People react really well to the video format because it's QUICK, VISUAL, and AUTHENTIC. Hubspot surveyed 1700+ marketers who said that their most used content format is video, especially short-form. Why? Because 89% of consumers want to see even more videos from brands, and 52% are also more likely to share video content than any other type of content.

Whether you identify yourself as a brand or not, a marketer-like person or not, these rules are universal. People like QUICK, VISUAL, and AUTHENTIC, and the latter is perhaps even more important now with AI on the rise.

These types of videos from creators are usually popular:

  1. Process videos: How is a product made? // Example
  2. Behind the scenes: Showing the everyday and the home/studio of the creator // Example
  3. Opinion videos: What's your take on trends and current topics that influence creators or their fans and customers? // Example
  4. Product videos: Showing the true size, texture, colours, and overall appearance of a product better than an image could // Example
  5. Show your favourite pieces, or works you're currently proud of or you like the most // Example
  6. Show your failures, with the lessons you gained at the end // Example

❓If you're interested in how to record, edit and post videos, from choosing the right (preferably free-to-use) tools to posting techniques, let me know. I'm thinking of creating content around this, sharing my own experience.
